Hello and welcome to another edition of the newsletter where I discuss all things related to apps and software. This month I'll discuss how to prevent spam on your Wordpress website. Spam can compromise your website so it's good to take precautionary measures before it's too late. Spam can be submitted to your website through post comments, user registration forms, and contact forms.

Built-In Spam Prevention

Wordpress is now bundled with a very effective (and free) spam prevention tool call Akismet. If you go to the "Plugins" section of your Dashboard you can activate the plugin. Then follow the link to the Akismet website to get your activation token and copy and paste it into your Dashboard.

Ever fill out a form on the web and notice this checkbox?

This type of anti-spam tool is called a "captcha" and Google offers a free one called reCaptcha. To get started with using reCaptcha go to Google's website and register.

Add A Spam-Free Contact Form To Your Site

Now that you've registered with Google, you can create a form on your website with the "I'm Not A Robot" checkbox. I recommend using a Wordpress plugin called Contact Form 7 because it only takes a few steps to get going with reCaptcha. Follow the instructions and your contact forms will be protected against spam!
